CO intoxication and its sequeale

• Carbon monoxide

  • binds to Hb with an affinity 210 times than that of O2 ? carboxyhemoglobin
  • reduced oxygen transportation by Hb and decreased the release of oxygen to tissuse : anoxic anoxia

• Delayed CO encephalopathy;

  • Incidence : 0.06 - 2.8 % of all cases of CO intoxication
  • patients with loss of consciousness : at risk
  • 1 to 3 weeks of lucid interval after exposure
